Proposed Residential Development in Syokimau
Syokimau is a residential area located in the western part of Machakos County, Kenya, just south of Nairobi and near Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The area is named after the legendary Akamba medicine woman, Prophetess Syokimau. She famously foretold the arrival of white settlers in Kenya and the construction of the Mombasa to Kisumu railway line. In her prophecy, she envisioned people of a different color arriving from Kisuani (modern-day Mombasa) carrying "fire in their pockets," a reference later understood as white settlers with matchboxes and guns. She also described seeing a long snake stretching from the Indian Ocean to Lake Victoria, symbolizing the future railway. Administratively, the majority of Syokimau is part of the Syokimau/Mlolongo ward in Mavoko Constituency, Machakos County.
